"Attack of the Cyber Octopuses" is a retro-futuristic cyberpunk short film. The aim was to recreate the look and feel of the Eighties Sci-fi classics, without using CGI nor chroma key. Therefore it was shot in real locations and uses various original miniature models and handmade props.

The story takes place in Neo-Berlin, 2079 A.D. A dark and rain-soaked city held by mega corporations where the only way for people to enjoy life is by connecting into cyberspace and taking the "binary trip", a cyberdrug that fries your neurons but promises a feeling better than a hundred orgasms at once.

The film is inspired by William Gibson's cyberpunk landmark Neuromancer and by some of the most awesome sci-fi products of that 80s era, like Blade Runner, Terminator, Escape from New York, Aliens, Akira, Tetsuo the Iron Man and many more.

Lately there have been some great short film projects with 80s moods, such as Kung Fury or Megaborg, but "Attack of the Cyber Octopuses" wants to reach the next level. Avoiding almost entirely the use of computer graphics (Editing, compositing and creating the virtual world of cyberspace will be done on a PC). Production of the weapons, vehicles, helmets, the cyber octopuses and even a miniature of the city were crafted using junk, old toys and some 3D printed parts.

I've always been amazed by the backstage photos of Blade Runner or the original Star Wars, and I wanted to challenge myself into creating something similar. A wonderful source of inspiration for this kind of work were also the recent films of Javier Chillon.

If you're interested in the "making of" of this project and wanna be updated with the latest news, please visit the official blog or subscribe to the various social media pages linked above.

Please consider that this is an independent low-budget project and any contribute will be very much welcome! Just the cost of a beer can help us a lot in developing this film. If you want more info about me and my works, please check out my showreel or my website.

"Attack of the Cyber Octopuses" is set in Neo-Berlin, 2079 A.D.. However filmed in Tallinn, Estonia. There are a couple of reasons for this choice. First of all I live in here as does a large percentage of the crew; second: Estonia is an affordable filming location; third and most important: Tallinn has some great locations, a wonderful mix of a very modern city with many relics from the Soviet Era. Check out some of these pictures and see for yourself!

This is combined with our custom-made miniature city, as you will see below.
